Studio style or in your own home?

Studio Style

Ideally 5-10 days old as this is the prime time for newborns to be very sleepy and it's a time when they still love being curled up. After this time they tend to sleep lighter, be harder to settle and colic and baby acne can flare up.

A sleepy, curled up baby on a soft blanket backdrop wearing an adorable little knitted hat, headband or wrap. I safely pose them in a number of positions that I am comfortable with and have been trained in using a large newborn posing beanbag and baskets.

These sessions typically take approximately 3 hours. They are longer than normal photoshoots as your baby will settle into the poses best when they are in a deep sleep. It can be a lengthy process that requires lots of patience. To get them to this stage of sleepiness I allow lots of time for feeding, nappy changes and cuddles to make your baby ready for a snooze. I like to take my time in these sessions so that you and your baby can stay comfortable and totally relaxed throughout.

At my home in Beckenham - in my home studio where I have plenty of space for all the equipment, lighting and props needed. There’s also a comfy sofa for you to sit on just behind me so you can relax and enjoy a cup of tea while I take care of settling your baby into all the poses.

Just yourselves. I send you over an information sheet upon booking which details how to prepare your baby for the shoot. Little tips like giving them a big feed before you arrive to fill their little tummies and avoiding putting socks on their feet beforehand so we avoid any little sock marks etc.

Absolutely, yes. No-one should take these type of shots of a baby unless they have been trained in the safety aspects of newborn studio-style photography. I am lucky enough to have been trained by one of the leading newborn photographers in the country so you can rest assured that every pose I put your baby in is done with expert knowledge and care.

Around the time of your 20 week scan and as far in advance as possible so we can book a slot in the diary. I book in 2 dates as we all know babies don’t like to work to a timetable. This is normally 5 days and 10 days after your due date. Then once your baby has been born we work out which date will be most suitable or arrange a new one. I only book in a limited number of newborn babies per month so I can guarantee your session dates.

In your own home

For newborn or baby photography in the comfort of your own home this can be done at anytime in their first year.

There are some key times which make great photography sessions:
Newborn – in the early days while they are sleepy and I can capture all their teeny tiny features.
3 months – when they are more awake and are good at a bit of tummy time
6 months – when they can sit up unaided
9 months – when they start to crawl and find their feet a little
12 months – to mark their first birthday when they may also be standing up holding on to things

Relaxed lifestyle images of you all getting to know your new baby. It’s not about capturing the perfect pose. These shoots are all about documenting those special beautiful moments as they take place in your home environment. Dad giving them a kiss on the cheek, a special cuddle on the sofa with mum, older siblings lying on the bed tickling their toes, holding their little fingers. Just capturing the innocence and pure beauty of your newborn in your home.

These sessions are normally 1 hour although I allow a little extra time for those moments when your baby needs feeding or changing or just a little reassuring cuddle.

At your home where you are surrounded by all your home comforts and everything you may need for you and your little one.

As far in advance as possible is best to ensure we capture your baby at the milestone that you would like. But this type of shoot can be done anytime in your baby’s first year. I am normally booked a month in advance but occasionally have slots that become available last minute so it’s always worth calling just in case.
